On July 2, 2022, Brookhaven police department responded to a disturbance at an apartment complex in Brookhaven, Ga, where a birthday celebration took a dark turn.
The celebration, initially intended for a male friend’s birthday, quickly devolved into a physical altercation involving his female companions.
Upon arrival, officers encountered a perplexing scene. A male individual stood in the parking lot, unable to provide coherent details about the incident.
He claimed to have injured his hand by striking a wall, rather than engaging in altercations with the females involved.
While one officer stayed with him, another went to speak with the women involved to gather their accounts.
According to the women, the group had ventured to Atlantis restaurant & lounge to celebrate their friend’s birthday.
As the night progressed and drinks flowed, a playful game among friends escalated into something more serious.
One of the women felt genuinely harmed during the play-fight, sparking heated arguments.
They all returned to the apartment later, and after some time, everyone else left except the two friends who were about to go to sleep, but were startled by persistent knocking on the door.
To their dismay, their gay friend forcefully entered the apartment, his demeanor aggressive. Despite attempts to pacify him, he lashed out and struck one of the women.
After collecting statements from all parties involved, officers asked the male suspect about his side of the events again.
He adamantly insisted that the altercation was just a friendly game and denied hitting anyone.
He was arrested and placed in the back of the officer’s vehicle, where he began to cry.
Emergency medical services (EMS) were summoned to treat the suspect’s hand injuries.
He was charged with criminal trespass and battery, and transported to Dekalb county jail.
