One man is lucky to be alive thanks to the actions of two Park Forest police officers. Police on Jan. 16 were called to the scene of a man found slumped over the steering wheel of his truck. The vehicle was locked and in drive, a needle spotted sticking out of the man’s arm. Officers JP Garrity and Christopher Batzel sprung into action, forcing entry to the truck to reach the driver unconscious from a suspected opioid overdose. Once inside the vehicle, officers resuscitated the man using Naloxone, an anti-opioid medicine more commonly known as Narcan. All Park Forest police carry the medication. A dash-cam captured the save. “Opioid use is having a profound effect across our country,” Park Forest police wrote on social media. “If you or someone you know is abusing opioids, we strongly encourage you to seek treatment. This man was lucky to have Officers Garrity and Batzel respond as they did.”

A note from police: The face of the man has been blurred to protect his privacy. Paramedics had already been requested in earlier portions of the video not shown, and arrived on scene at the end of this clip, continuing treatment and ultimately transporting the man to the hospital for emergency care. The countdown that can be heard just prior to the man’s resuscitation is part of the electronic voice instructions of the medicine delivery system.

  1. One of those cops, Chris Batzel is a petty, scumbag piece of shit. He pulled me over because of a turn signal and gave me a DUI claming I was high on pot. I was homeless at the time and I was pulling into Walmart to sleep in my van. I told him this. Total POS!

  2. My daughter has to pay $600-$800 for her Epi-Pen (which saved her life twice) yet drug addicts get Narcan for FREE whenever they need it. Blows my mind!!!

  3. TL;DR: Don't force people to live. We who wants to commit suicide don't wanna be saved.

From the bigger picture we all die in the end. So my not end it now?
Why try so hard for the little things when they really don't matter in the end. We're all going to be forgotten at some point.
We all just do stuff without reason. I'm so very tired of it. And the fact that my daily life contains of depression, social anxiety and suicidal thoughts doesn't make it easier. I question everything I do. This world drives me crazy.

I swear, and I know, I'll kill myself one day. That's the one thing I'm sure of. I just don't know when.
There is just to many feelings, and it's too complicated. It's that simple. Don't force me to live if I don't want too.
They said I could walk my own path and that I was to decide which one that is. Well then, I want to walk the path of death!
So why does the world try to stop me from takling that path now that I'm making a decision?
Now they say that; if I don't stop inflicting self harm, I'd be put in a room in the hospital where I'd not be able to hurt myself.
But that's not saving me. That's putting me in jail. Just that it's in the hospital so everyone think it's the best option.

Oh, how humans are blind. We really don't question anything nowadays. I'm starting to think we who suffer because of our way of thinking are the ones who are REALLY smart. Because we question life, the system and everything we do. But that doesn't work in this society, nor do I seem to be able to handle it.

    Thanks for reading~~

  4. I have a buddy who has od'd 7 times over the years and the paramedics only gave him narcan the last time it happened. He said it makes you feel instantly dope sick as if you havent had dope in days. Most times they administer this drug the person is strapped down bc they usually wake up super agitated. It would have been interesting to see this junkies reaction to narcan.

  5. Narcan is a weird thing, I've seen it used first hand. It revives the individual but it also places them in instantaneous complete withdrawal so they're more or less pissed to be alive.
