Busted on the Coosa: 88 Bass Over the Limit

#CrimeCamNow
While patrolling the Coosa River in Floyd County, Georgia on December 10, 2023, a Georgia Department of Natural Resources Game Warden came across two fishermen about to head home.
They weren’t having much luck, or so they said. The warden checked their fishing licenses, safety equipment and boat registration. But then, things got fishy
Our fishermen here, well, they actually did have some fish. A lot of fish.
The warden, suspecting something wasn’t quite right, asked them about the daily catch limit for bass.
Shockingly, they had no idea! The bass limit in Georgia is 15 per person.
So, fishermen start counting their haul. One by one, the bass pile grew bigger and bigger. By the time they hit 29, the warden knew they were way over the limit.
He stopped counting and explained the situation.
The fish count kept climbing. 36… 38… still no end in sight. The warden, needing some backup, called for another officer who luckily wasn’t far away.
Together, the wardens went through the fishermen’s catch. A whopping 88 bass over the limit!
Both fishermen received citations for possession over the daily creel limit. The officer seized the 88 bass and explained to them that they were lucky not to go to jail.
On top of the citations, the fishermen had a couple other problems. No driver’s licenses meant they needed to call someone to pick them up, and their boat registration wasn’t readable on one side. They were lucky the wardens decided to show leniency this time.
Following the incident, the 88 bass seized by the wardens found a new purpose. They were donated to a local family in need, highlighting the importance of community and responsible resource management.
