On October 28th, 2021, Doraville police were called to the scene of a vehicle that hit an embankment in Doraville, Georgia.
When they arrived, they found a car with significant front-end damage and deployed airbags. The driver, who was still behind the wheel, was able to get out of the car.
The officer first checked on the driver’s well-being and the driver reported being in pain. Emergency medical services (EMS) were called to the scene.
The driver explained that he worked as a service advisor at a Honda dealership and had taken his sister’s car to fix some minor mechanical problems.
After getting the car fixed, he decided to go see an Atlanta United soccer game.
Unfortunately, on his way back, another vehicle stopped short in front of him, causing a collision. The driver of the other vehicle then fled the scene.
The officer noted that the driver seemed agitated and smelled of alcohol. A field sobriety test was requested, but the driver refused.
Despite EMS arriving, the driver also refused any medical evaluation or transport to the hospital.
When the officer attempted to place him in handcuffs due to suspicion of DUI, the driver initially resisted arrest. Thankfully, he eventually complied and was arrested.
An assisting officer located a drunk passenger wandering near the accident scene. He was also arrested.
The driver was charged with DUI and duty upon striking a fixture.
The passenger was charged with public intoxication and disobeying a police officer.
Both individuals were transported to the Dekalb County Jail.

I don't understand why the passenger was arrested 🤔 He clearly was just as drunk as his friend but he was still just a passenger.
