4. Michigan Department of State Police vs. Sitz the supreme court acted outside the law. This decision needs to be over turned. Their rationale in this decision was that safety trumps your rights, and the law. The past 40 years our rights have been eroding if people don't start standing up it is going to keep getting far worse.

5. "I don't make the policys". When the "policy" violates the highest law in US. The one he is swore to uphold , he has a obligation to not comply with the "policy" . Policy is NOT LAW !

7. DUI deaths are a strawman argument in order to infringe upon the 4th amendment. "Rather 100 guilty men go free than take away the liberty of one innocent man."

12. I thought these checkpoints were determined to be unconstitutional?… is there a lot of them in LA?.. I don't see them in Portland. I know Figueroa st is a bad area in LA.

If the state of Ca, or any state for that matter, really wanted to stop people from consuming the drug alcohol and operating motor vehicles, the simple solution is to enforce the penalties to a point where no half brained person would ever commit that crime. 1st offense; mandatory one year in jail one year suspension of DL. 2nd offense; mandatory five years in state prison, lose your driving privileges forever. Done.
    But the courts and politicians don't want that, they want to collect our tax dollars in fines, tow fees, "rehab" fees, etc. The system is fixed and corrupt, and definitely not serious about people killing innocent people via alcohol and operating vehicles.
    What's really sad is the street police think they're doing something good for the community, but in reality (and what the average citizen remembers most) is they are pissing off and interrupting people to move freely and unobstructed without harassment by the government.
    The street police are basically pawns in the system. They may laugh but if you step back and look at the bigger picture, that's how the police fit into the puzzle. DUI checkpoints are a convenient tool used by politicians to collect revenue more than anything else. The average street police have debt just like the average Joe, so they have no incentive to speak out about the reality of the checkpoint, they have bills to pay, and the job has great benefits, decent pay and great job security …unless they mimic the Torrance PD. Then they deserve to be fired.

    You guys are spot on, there are more effective ways to enforce DUI laws.

22. Terry Bressi spoke about dui checkpoints with statistics showing the ineffectiveness of the checkpoints when compared to saturation patrols. The sgt. should read up on this issue.
