If a driver is pulled over for a traffic stop and the officer asked the driver if there is any weapons in the car and the driver says yes a hand gun, why would the police be in fear for their safety, because if the driver wanted to harm the police he wouldn't have told him there was a gun in the car in the first place, the driver would have just started shooting once the officer approached the vehicle.
It’s funny how often these situations escalate because some sensitive individuals with badges feel disrespected and behave like that simple act is an illegal action in and of itself.

He never left his vehicle. He was on a road presumably open to public traffic, judging from the fact that they and other drivers have driven there freely and wothout knowledge that it was closed. If he never exited his vehicle, he never left his own property, and could not have trespassed onto another's property.
Perfect example of Tyrants. The Major was absolutely escalating the situation and was trying very hard to show that he/they are above questioning and was very persistent with his belief that you have to do anything he says.
