Driving home from some grocery shopping and saw this scene. Kid looked like he had been stopped aggressively or collided with police car. Turns out, they illegally searched his bag and were threatening him with arrest for bolt cutters found during said search.

If I were this kid, I'd scratch the heck out of the left side of the bike and bring it to a bike shop and get an estimate on restoring the bike. Then I'd bring that estimate — along Johnny 5 O's video — to police station and ask for restitution. I'd also file an ethics complaint against the cops who endangered his life based on a bike light.
Yes, when a citizen on a bike [who is suspected of the egregious offense of not having a bike light] doesn't listen or doesn't hear a cop's 'lawful' order to stop, a pit maneuver or the like is warranted for he could flee and tell others to engage in similar violations of traffic law.

Guy was obviously a criminal. Sketchy dude with bolt cutters screams intent in my opinion. I’ve had my bike stolen by scum bags like that on multiple occasions.
At first I saw the bolt cutters and wondered why a cyclist would have them and then remembered I have a set in my vehicle from a 2 year ago purchase. I actually used them last month to help coworker get trailer ball lock off as it had rusted shut….. they were pretty handy then…..
He was out stealing bikes. He cuts the lock with the bolt cutters then rides off with the bike. Then sells it on Craigslist. There probably was a crime committed. Someone called the police who saw this guy stealing this bike.

OK but didn't this guy have Bolt cutters in his bag? I pretty much am always on the opposite side of the cops… but no one wants their shit stolen that they have worked hard for. I mean it's kinda obvious, no one just carries around Bolt cutters. I can't tell you how many times my kids have had their property stolen, bikes ect. It sucks… my husband and I work hard for these things.
