How to Install LED Bed Lights (Fun DIY Project)

Learn how to install LED strip lights in the bed of your truck or under the hood of your car for less than $30. I show you how to wire the white LED strip lights with a push button switch and a magnetic switch so when you open the tailgate the lights come on automatically and illuminate the inside of the truck bed.

You can also install the LED lights under the hood of your car so when you open your hood, the lights turn on automatically or with the push of a button. In this case we are working on a Ford Raptor pickup truck but the LED light installation process is the same on any vehicle.

  1. Hey @ChrisFix! I just want to say thanks SO MUCH for your videos! I'm an 18 year old girl who knows absolutely nothing about cars and I've always been too scared to buy one, but with your videos I just got an amazing deal on my first car and it's in great shape! You also helped me prove my boyfriend wrong haha because I changed some brake pads, rotors, and did an oil change all by myself which was the coolest thing ever! So keep doing what you do because it's helping millions!! 🙂

  2. Need some help, led strip lights are ON, but dim, all connections are good, ground is good, not sure how else to trouble shoot this, any thoughts?

  3. Hey Chris! I spent so much time looking for this exact setup online and couldn't find what I was looking for! All the setups were much more complicated than this! So thanks for making this video! 😊

  4. Hello @ChrisFix! I understand this is an old video so you may not even read this comment, but Thank you so so much for making this video, it's a perfect tutorial for what I'm trying to achieve!(At least I HOPE!) I have a ramp van and wanting to put lights on the ramp so that when it opens the lights automatically come on and turn off when the ramp goes back up. I will be referring to your video throughout the install process, so wish me luck! I got led lights that change color, so hopefully that doesn't cause a problem…Any advice or tips you have for me are WELCOME!!!

  5. I wouldn't go with ground to switch, it's always better to have the power wire going through the switch in case something shorts out behind the lights (ie ground cable rubs on some metal) because then the light would stay on, rather than the fuse blowing if power was switched and something happens

  6. Hey so I got one of those switches from Amazon along with the magnetic things. However the switches didn’t come with a cable harness attached.

Can you help me figure it out. I’d like the switch to work along with the opening and closing. And would like the led ring to stay on as well.

  7. Yeh but the only person in the back of your pickup at night is either a thief or a hooker.

Or both cause that’s where the good shits at 🥳🥳🥳

  8. There are heat shrink butt connectors that have solder in them so they seal and solder the connection. Also there's heat shrink tubing with an adhesive that seals against moisture. Might save someone some time

  9. @chrisfix! Hey Chris!, i am a fan of your videos i have a segestion for this install. Since the Led strip has a white backing they make led strips that are black with diferent color lighting to meet your application. I did a similar install like this before i saw this video and i used RGBW led strips so i can change the colors because i have a custom setup. My headlights also can be changed by color if you wanted as well as my underglow. i think the black strips would look so much better for the application

  10. Hey chis .question do I have to use a relay on the switch?? Cause I watch your video a couple times and try to test the switch on my car battery and the wires fried
