Watch live: House convenes following Senate approval of foreign aid package

House Republicans are facing two issues as floor proceedings convene Tuesday morning: Border security funding and making another attempt to impeach Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.

The Senate voted early Tuesday morning to pass a $95 billion foreign aid spending bill. Well before the pre-dawn vote, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) indicated his disapproval of the measure, which includes funding for Ukraine, Israel and Indo-Pacific security.

Johnson, like many others in his party, doesn’t want to send funds overseas unless the legislation also includes resources for U.S. border protection. The Senate package was only able to pass by splitting the foreign aid bill from border security measures that GOP senators did not support.

House Republicans also expected to vote again on impeaching Mayorkas for what many leading lawmakers consider a failure in his responsibility to secure the U.S. against illegal immigration.

The floor convenes beginning at 12 noon EST, with a vote on Mayorkas planned for 6:30 p.m. EST.
