The one thing I do question the US doing is preventing more of the Gazan civilians being permitted to leave. 2+ months into the conflict, Egypt finally was more willing to open the Rafah gate for some Gazan civilians to leave the area. Several countries were willing to take some Palestinians on a temporary basis. But, the US stopped the process. Instead, the US forced Israel to open the Kerem Shalom Crossing to let in more aid (most stolen by Hamas to sell to civilians). My thought is that fewer civilians in the way, the easier it is for the IDF to keep collateral damage low. Why keep more civilians in harm's way? Of course, the one thing I can think of is that the US was reluctant to have Palestinians move out and not be able to get back into Gaza. That's probably a legitimate concern. But, I think that Israel has enough world attention not to pull such a maneuver: if they were to do something like that. I blame Hamas for placing civilians in danger by embedding themselves in with the population and Egypt for not allowing Palestinians out on a temporary basis – so many lives could have been saved if Egypt acted. Time is going to tell how upset I'm going to be with Israel over collateral damage. Because, Hamas' Pallywood tactics and failure to disclose slain jihadists. However, I am looking forward to seeing some public trials on Hamas – so the world can see their criminal activities.
Right to defend themselves is one thing exterminating Palestinians is another. Is Israel really going after Hamas?
