MASSIVE FIRE – Runaway Diesel on the Dyno!

We got more than we were bargaining for at our first Ultimate Callout Challenge diesel event! We were expecting to see some carnage, but not a MASSIVE fire like this and a runaway diesel on the dyno! The Dirty Ho*ker Diesel team brought out their Last Minute Ho*ker Duramax Chevy to UCC and put on a show they definitely were not hoping for!
** We had originally stated incorrect dyno numbers in this video which is why they are now blurred – the truck made 1,572hp & 1,799tq when it blew up!

  1. What's nuts is that thing became an inferno from hell, then they immediately started rebuilding it afterwards. They're dedicated to that truck.

  2. Rinse it off with water and put it back in let's say, a Cadillac, I'm sorry, i mean Crapilac. It'll be just like the same thing.
GM are garbage, at every level.

  3. I know this is a 4 year old video but the guy that owns DHD is right across the street from the shop that I work at. About ounce a month I hear something that sounds like it's about to blow up or come through the walls of my shop…

  4. TOTAL CREDIT TO THE GUYS they had a fier suit on, they had a runaway cut off that WOULD have worked if it has not sheared the turbo off – they did everything right…

  5. "There's concern that there's going to be some pretty heavy bearing damage". Ummmm…..that's your concern? Not that everything in the engine compartment was on fire and either blew up or was broken?

  6. Why is it that the procedure for shutting down a diesel engine is always to cut the air supply? Under "normal" operating conditions that may work fine, but it seems like you'd want to have a way to cut fuel pressure near the injection system. I am baffled as to why there is ever a runaway condition at all considering this could be done. Especially during an event like this if for no other reason than safety. How complicated can it be?

  7. Diesels should come with a way to block the intake from the cabin. A button that moves a cover over the turbo blocking air from fueling it farther. Maybe that won't work, I don't know much about Diesels.

  8. I told my buddy "that was a nice expensive truck" and he said "that was a nice expensive Dyno" I started laughing and said I didn't think of that… he's gonna be mad. My buddy said "both of them are probably swing all the fire is going"
