No, painting your brake calipers will not give you extra horsepower, but they might make you feel faster.
This is a short video about painting brake calipers. There are many ways you can approach this process, this is just one of them, and in my opinion, one of the easiest and most accurate if you’re able to wield a small paint brush.

So glad you are back doing some videos
Could have sanded it down also.
How many extra hp will paint give the engine? Does red color give even more hp than say black color? 😜
How much did your 0-60 time change?
LOL.. can't wait to see you re-enter YouTube on a regular basis again. There are DIYers, "mechanics" and the likes on YouTube, but there's only a few like ETCG that can not only actually teach correctly and accurately the whys & hows of auto mechanics, but that can do it in a captivating and entertaining way. Cheers Eric.
ERIC, YOU ARE A LIFE LINE for Element owners! You produce some of the BEST videos! THANK YOU!
Hope you and your family are healthy and happy, and look forward to your return to our screens.
Good luck 🍀🍀🇮🇪🇮🇪
I've always laughed at people who felt the need to "show off" their pretty brake calipers but after seeing this…I'm still gonna laugh
Dollar store has the brushes also. 4 for 1.25 Canadian pesos
Also your bang on about 1 brush. Not enuff need 2 minimum they just loose bristles and it sticks to your calipers and they get all flayed out. You can't get a precision line. Definitely buy a 4 pack or a 1000 pack if you have HF. We just have crap tire here in Canada
Used both the brush on and the spray with clear and I prefer the spray. Probably just cause I do alot of rattle canning.. but yes it your calipers are that pitted. Spend a few bux and get some new ones. Depends how much of the wheel hides it I guess. But that puppy was rough.
I did such a job, but went a much more complicated way. First thing I brushed all the calipers with a wire-brush put on an angle grinder. Then I sandblasted the calipers. Then sprayed them with etch primer, primer, red coat… Changed the rubber parts, rusty pistons, that was a restoration requireing some special tools, patience and time… But the end result looked much better. In the end they got dirty 🙂 Nobody looks at them anyway. But still I have the self-confidence: "I can do this, I am cool, I am cool" 🙂
not gonna lie thats a horrible paint job
You’re back!
What a HORRIBLE hillbilly job, you should be arrested and hung on the “Wall of Shame.”
wow that looks terrible. If you left it alone it wouldn't be noticable, but red screams
You’re amazing Eric. My HP increased by .0000279%. Noticeable difference!
I reckon that's good for about 5 extra Horse Power
Good coverage that paint has, but definitely would’ve looked better if you sanded down the pits and high spots.. just to get them more smoother looking. But nothing beats fresh looking brakes, they’re usually always neglected
Great video Eric as always, nice to see another Eric The Car guy Video hope to see more.
Sometimes you do things because you can -to spice things up.

Dear eric I have used your resources to see if I can resolve an issue with my 2009 genesis 3.8 sedan where the head unit for the ac is stuck in auto mode and I cant find anything helpful with that said the cooling fan module keeps shorting after 2 weeks of installation if you have an opinion on this as to where I should start please let me know and yes im subscribed and ive been watching your videos for years thanks for all that you do
I have a 2010 Honda CRV with 60,000 miles. Just started last week. Cranks up and goes dead a couple of times when cold only. Then cranks, sputters a little then runs like new until overnight gets cold and repeats . Nighttime temps. here in Georgia are 80 plus. Ant Ideas.
Eric, did you have to sand between coats?
Long time
My butt dyno states otherwise. The only thing that helps it go faster is two 7 layer burritos from taco bell on a hot day with hellapeenjo ranch on the side for 70c extra
Have them blasted & powder coated. Fair better up against the elements.
Hey Eric, I'm wondering if the calipers are painted to shiny chrome like finish, will it reflect heat away from the caliper itself? (btw amazing videos, thank you so much for producing ALL these videos over the years! really really helps me with my Honda / Acura vehicles!!!)
Polishing a turd.
That looks hideous 😂😂
P0171 and P0305 3800 Pontiac Grand prix
I know exactly what you mean. As a kid, we’d wash our cars to make them go through the air better.
More recently, when 4 of 6 injector harness connectors snapped on my Tacoma (a common issue; disconnecting them is part of removing valve covers for gasket replacement) I temporarily held the broken connectors to the injectors with purple zip ties. Choosing purple gave an extra 8 horsepower, true story.
Welcome back Eric
No Dyno?
Awesome to see new videos again.
Как можно было красить по такой ржавчине???? Колхоз полнейший(((
Awesome color and adds longevity to the caliper. Thanks to you I have a project to do now LOL !!! 😂
I used this on my calipers and I loved the results
Welcome back my guy!
Last Year I watched in pain as my neighbor painted all four of the calipers on his brand new Dodge Charger- WITHOUT REMOVING THE WHEELS. His list of "tools" included- 1. Aluminum foil from the 99 cent only store. 2. Red spray paint 2 cans. (looked to be glossy Rustoleum). 3. Three bottles of Corona beer. 4. Scotch tape
Without cleaning, washing or wiping anything he reached through the spoke and cover everything loosely with foil, secured with scotch tape. He then covered the wheels with foil and proceeded to paint each caliper. He would occasionally move the car forward or backwards a couple inches for better access to the (viewable & outside, front facing portion) individual calipers. From 25 ft away (my driveway) they did not look too bad. Except that this Charger was a base model with gaps in the caliper through to the rear of the pads. So it looked really funny when viewed up close.
To each his own? I like your method much better!
He's back!!!
