Preferred pronouns cannot be reconciled with disability rights (language and cognitive disabilities EXIST) and protection from discrimination on the basis of race, creed, and national origin (language – not every language differentiates male and female in pronouns) plus religion. If I tell you my name is Mike, is it anti intellectual for me to ask you not to call me Bob? The way people identify is not pretend to them, it is a major part of their life. You can think whatever you want, but calling somebody by the pronoun they choose is a matter of respect to that person. As a teacher who serves a diverse student body, it really is not acceptable to disrespect or single out a student based off of personal beliefs. The same would go for you as a law enforcement officer.
I personally think Islam and Christianity are fictional. Of course, I am allowed to have my opinion, but I would expect to get in trouble at work if I let a religious person know that I think their belief system is wrong. Doing that would be disrespecting that religious person. If you think about it "accurately" Christianity is full of beliefs not based in "science or reality". In fact, if you do some more "accurate" thinking, you should realize that expecting others to respect your faith while not respecting the identity of others makes you a hypocrite.
The examples you mentioned about identifying as a different age, or as being pregnant would obviously cause issues and allow people to avoid personal accountability. How does identifying as a gender other than your biological gender pose issues like this?

Hey Mike The Cop! – Here's a different slant on this particular story….
First, you said this teacher claimed that because he's a Christian, that somehow his 'faith' prohibits him from referring to a transgender person by the pronoun they prefer, if it isn't their biological gender. So, addressing that aspect first, I'd have to seriously question where in the Bible this prohibition is written. (It's not.) There are some references as to 'one woman, one man' type of thing, but as far as pronouns go… nope, Christianity has no such strictures in scripture. I imagine the school board would probably have pointed this out to this teacher.
Secondly, as you mentioned at the end of the video, that if this teacher is purposefully being 'intolerant', then he deserved to be fired. Tho, given the unanimous decision by the school board, I would think that this wasn't the only student, nor the only incident where this teacher showed some type of 'scorn' or even bigotry towards LGBTQ or any other difference in a student he simply didn't like or was possibly bigoted against.
So, I guess I'm saying that if they fired him for a single incident, that would be wrong, especially if there were no malice or 'intent' in his actions….. but, with the small amount of evidence you gave us here, I'm inclined to think this teacher had possibly a pattern of intolerance and should have been let go. And lastly, I personally feel that the whole SJW transgender/how 'I' identify thing has no place in K thru 12 schools, as far as insisting on being treated in all ways as the opposite gender. These are still children, minors, and are interacting with other children/minors. Until they are 18, and are out of the public school system, there is a large degree of 'conformity to reasonable norms' that must be followed. If I had a daughter in school, (grade, junior or senior high) and she came and told me a transgender 'girl' was now being allowed to play in girls sports and was allowed into girls locker rooms and rest rooms…. yes, as open minded as I am, I would indeed have a problem with that. See what I'm saying? So… the whole 'gender identity' thing is a sticky wicket.

Being missgendered is kinda offensive if you know my gender it feels like your agenst that persons identity. But in no way was it fare for that school to fire that man. He offered to use the name witch is perfectly fine for me and any other trans person. He should have never been fired but if he refused to use the child's name or went to old pronouns that's another story. A child should feel safe and supported in a public school community. Just my opinion no way is it a hate comment, have a good day.

you rely a whole lot on it being "scientifically accurate" as you should, so I feel like you should look into the hormonal and physiological differences between transgender people and their natural gender. Just because some of their biology is retaining their original gender much of their physiology is not. There is a large amount of scientific backing to transgender people. weather or not transitioning solves anything, or really much of anything else you can debate all you'd like but saying it isn't there scientifically is empirically wrong.
